What would you do if you had just 48 hours and an ultralight pack of overnight gear? How fast and how far would you go—and where? What epic human-powered adventure would you conquer?
Last summer we posed this question to MSR employees in a contest inspired by MSR’s new TrailShot™ pocket-sized water filter. In their ideas, the employees had to explain how the TrailShot would enable their fast-and-light 48-hour undertaking.
We received many submissions of superhuman feats: sufferfest bikepacking missions, multisport summit assaults, ultra-mile fastpacks, even an enchainment of peaks in the Alaska Range.
In the end, the winners were three MSR engineers who sought to climb Washington state’s remote Glacier Peak and then packraft out the rushing Suiattle River.
That August team conquered their mission, clocking 35 miles of hellish bushwacking, 12,800 feet of elevation gain and several miles of adrenaline-pumping packrafting—all in 48 hours car-to-car.
